The LSA scale may, if not handled correctly, be a hazard to both personnel working on the platforms and employees in companies doing repair, cleaning, or maintenance of tubing, valves, filters etc. Today tons of LSA scale has been handled and stored at different locations on the west coast of Norway. The demolishing of old platforms has started, and the disposal of the LSA scale material has to follow strict regulations to protect the environment from radioactivity.
